I was fortunate to engage the Principals of Hooper & Hanson to project manage one of the most successful Mental Health in Practice (MHNIP) pilot sites in Australia, supporting the transition of Mental Health Nurses into the Primary Care/General Practice setting, delivery of Mental Health nurse clinical services and promoting collaborative, integrative mental health service delivery.

Naturally, they were our first choice to support the development of an innovative and culturally responsive Mental Health Nurse in Practice Service in remote Far Western NSW, including the delivery of Mental Health Nursing services to remote communities, engagement and orientation of General Practice and other primary care providers in a collaborative Mental Health system, development of Mental Health networks to support the stepped model of care and direct delivery of Mental Health Nurse Clinical Services.

Hooper & Hanson have delivered Mental Health Nursing services within several General Practice and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in our region. The service is built upon an innovative State Health (LHD) and Commonwealth (PHN) funded model.  Where others have failed to overcome the traditional Mental Health Nurse workforce and service challenges facing rural and remote communities, Hooper & Hanson has supported the development of a very successful innovative Mental Health Nurse Program.  They have the practical experience, expertise and approach to support the successful delivery of Mental Health Services to rural and remote regions.

Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program (MHNIP) program engages mental health nurses to work closely with general practitioners and psychiatrists to provide specialist mental health care and support for people with severe and persistent mental illness in the community. MHNIP is designed to assist people whose mental health condition is significantly impacting on their social, personal and work life.

Earlier in 2017, the NSW Western Primary Health Network (PHN) commissioned the NSW Outback Division of General Practice (ODGP) to provide new MHNIP services to North Western NSW, with hubs located in Cobar, Walgett and Bourke.

In April 2017, the ODGP engaged credentialed Mental Health Nurse, Scott Hanson (Hooper and Hanson), to introduce the MHNIP services to the local primary mental health care providers across the three hubs. In addition to this consultancy role, Scott also established the MHNIP clinical services, providing care to clients referred under the program.

Along with to the challenges of introducing any new program, Scott also had to navigate the significant geography within the rural and remote service hubs. Despite this, he has been very successful in promoting and implementing the MHNIP for ODGP. He has engaged easily with the relevant health providers and enjoys positive relations with all stakeholders.

Scott has developed an extensive client base, a testament to his clinical skills and experience. His record keeping and reporting is comprehensive and meets all current mental health legislative requirements.

Scott has also assisted in the recruitment and selection of the MHNIP nurse positions for Walgett and Bourke. He continues to provide visiting MHNIP services to Cobar and remains a greatly valued mentor for the ODGP MHNIP services.

I highly recommend Hooper & Hanson and can personally attest to their capabilities and professionalism.
